Mapaero was the first European manufacturer to introduce water based paints in the aviation industry and following ten year of research had the first product approved by Airbus in 2001.
Since then the water based paint technology has proven its worth among European manufacturers, enabling optimal control over the thickness of coatings applied to components.Mapaero has developed a range of products qualified for various applications and stringent environments, taking into account factors such as adhesion, chemical resistance, durability and the protection of composite and metal materials. Today, these products are recognised as leaders in the field by companies such as Airbus, Dassault, Embraer and Bombardier.
Thanks to its dedicated staff, Mapaero has successfully instigated and provided support for this transition to water based paints across Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas. The technological susses of the Mapaero water based coatings rests in the fact that the product is supplied in a highly concentrated form allowing operators to add the appropriate amount of water prior to use, thereby enabling them to vary the viscosity as necessary to suit their facilities, temperature and humidity conditions, and painting staff. This feature also enables savings to be made in terms of transport, storage and waste and means that the product can be used with the various automatic mixing solutions available on the market or with paint application robots. It can also be used undiluted for application by paintbrush for touch-ups.
Mapaero is also actively involved in various chromate substitution programmes in the aeronautical industry, for the protection of metal structures against corrosion and, more generally, as part of a strategy of providing environmentally friendly products.
